CHILD RAPISTS 75

MUSKEGON COUNTY, MI - A man recently convicted of sexually touching a child is now being held in jail on a $1 million bond for a more serious sex assault charge.

David Andrew Koza, 30, of Fruitland Township has been charged with first degree criminal sexual conduct for sexual penetration of the victim in the earlier case, said Muskegon County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Timothy Maat.
Koza was arrested March 2 after additional information was received from the victim about an act of penetration that occurred between May and September of 2016, Maat said.
"These new allegations were during the same time as the previous allegations, but became known to investigators in the last couple days," Maat said.
Police were called in October 2016 after the child, who is under age 13, reported inappropriate touching after attending a good touch-bad touch program at school, authorities said earlier. Koza pleaded guilty to second degree criminal sexual conduct on Feb. 1 and is awaiting sentencing on March 16.
Koza bonded out of jail on Nov. 4, 2016, by posting 10 percent of $50,000.
It's not likely he'll bond out now that his bond has been increased to $1 million for the new charge. That bond was set by Muskegon District Judge Maria Ladas Hoopes on an interim basis prior to arraignment, and District Judge Geoffrey Nolan continued that bond when he arraigned Koza on Friday.
"We're pleased with the bond and we believe it protects the victim and the community," Maat said.
The case has been investigated by the Muskegon County Sheriff's Department.
The preliminary examination is scheduled for 10 a.m. March 20 in District Judge Raymond Kostrzewa's courtroom.

A Bee County jury couldn’t decide whether a priest and philanthropist raped a teenage girl at her grandparents’ Beeville-area home.
State District Judge Starr Bauer declared a mistrial Friday in the aggravated sexual assault trial against Stephen Tarlton Dougherty.
Jurors heard testimony over four days and deliberated about six hours. Dougherty and his accuser, who was 13 when she said he raped her, took the stand. The judge released jurors about 10 p.m. Friday after they said they were deadlocked.
Bee County Assistant District Attorney Terry Breen said he plans to re-try the case. A second trial is slated for June.
The accuser, now 18, told a counselor years later Dougherty raped her in December 2011. The counselor persuaded the woman to tell police and in June 2016 Dougherty was indicted of a first-degree felony, punishable by as much as life in prison.
Doughtery, 60, denied the rape accusation. He and his lawyer, John Pinckney of San Antonio, suggested the woman’s grandparents pushed the accusation after a business deal went bad.
In 2013, the woman’ grandparents filed a lawsuit against Dougherty over his ranch, where they lived and tended to the land and deer. Dougherty and the grandparents settled the lawsuit out of court in January 2015.
The woman’s rape accusation was the second sexual misconduct allegation the Diocese of Corpus Christi received about Dougherty. The Diocese stripped Dougherty of his duties in 2011 after the first accusation.
The details of that incident were never made public.
After Dougherty was indicted last year, the woman filed a lawsuit in Nueces County against the priest, the Diocese of Corpus Christi, and the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity. The lawsuit accuses the diocese and the religious order of not doing enough to protect the woman. A trial on that lawsuit is slated for October.
Dougherty’s family came to South Texas in the 1800s and has long been active in the Catholic church, according to Caller-Times archives. Dougherty’s father, Dudley Dougherty, traveled to Rome in 1963 to attend the coronation of Pope Paul IV and received the papal honor of Knight of the Holy Sepulcher.
Dougherty’s cousin, Frances Tarlton “Sissy” Farenthold, is a former state legislator and gubernatorial candidate.

MASON COUNTY, MI - A 35-year-old man accused of giving marijuana to a boy "in exchange for sexual acts" has been charged with six felonies including two counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct.

Ryan Lee Herrera of Custer was arrested following a three-week investigation that alleges he "provided marijuana to a child in exchange for sexual acts on numerous occasions over the past several months," according to a press release from the office of Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.
Herrera, who is charged as a second-time offender on the CSC counts, is lodged at the Mason County Jail on a $550,000 bond, according to the press release.
He has been charged with two counts of first-degree CSC, which involves sexual penetration, as well as possessing child sexually abusive material, accosting a child and drug charges.
Herrera is on the Michigan Sex Offender Registry for a 2000 conviction for second degree CSC.
Cole said he is concerned there may be other victims, and encouraged parents to talk to their children about Herrera.
"If the children know this guy, we encourage parents to call the detective bureau," Cole said.
Parents should call (231) 843-3475 and ask for Detective Sgt. Postma, Cole said.
The case against Herrera began as a tip called into the Scottville Police Department, Cole said. The police began an investigation but turned it over to the sheriff's department when they determined the alleged acts occurred outside of their jurisdiction, Cole said.
It's alleged the incidents occurred in Herrera's vehicle, Cole said. The alleged victim is cooperating, he said.
The sheriff's department previously unsuccessfully sought charges against Herrera for Facebook activity, Cole said. Following up on a tip, Cole's office determined that Herrera had opened a Facebook page under a false name and was trying to get young people to like it, Cole said.
The sheriff's warrant request was denied by the prosecutor because of a court ruling saying that amendments to Michigan's sex offender registry law didn't affect offenders convicted at an earlier date, Cole said.
Michigan' law requires sex offenders to disclose any aliases they use. It also requires them to report their log-ins for instant messaging or email systems they use.
Herrera was arrested by Mason County deputies Friday, March 3, and arraigned the following day. He is facing seven charges:
Count 1 - First degree criminal sexual conduct with a person under age 13. This is punishable by up to life in prison and carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years.
Count 2 - First degree criminal sexual conduct during the commission of a felony.  The charge is punishable by any number of years.
Count 3 - Possession of child sexually abusive material, punishable by up to four years in prison and/or $10,000.
Count 4 - Delivery/manufacture of marijuana, punishable by up to four years in prison and/or $20,000 fine.
Count 5 - Maintaining a drug house, which is a two-year high court misdemeanor.
Count 6 - Accosting a child for immoral purposes, a four-year felony. This count has a habitual offender notice.
Count 7 - Accosting a child for immoral purposes, a four-year felony. This count also has a habitual offender notice.
OLMSTED FALLS, Ohio - A former Olmsted Falls auxiliary police officer and Boy Scout leader has been arrested and charged with child rape, police said.

Aaron Robertson, 28, was arrested without incident Monday afternoon, Olmsted Falls Police Chief William Traine said during a Monday evening news conference. He has been booked into Strongsville Jail and charged with one count of rape.
"[Robertson] was involved in multiple rapes, and the victim was an underage boy," Traine said. He said police have learned of more than 10 instances of abuse, though Traine would not give an exact number.
Only one victim has been identified, however police say there may be more. The known victim is not being named.
Olmsted Falls police learned about the rape accusations after someone called Cuyahoga County's Child Protective Services hotline 696-KIDS to report concerns, Traine said. The county and Olmsted Falls police continue to investigate the accusations.
Robertson has no prior criminal record or "precursors to any improper activity," Traine said.
Robertson was an auxiliary police officer for five years before he was terminated Monday. There were no issues with Robertson while working as an auxiliary officer, the chief said.
Robertson was also the troop leader for an Olmsted Falls Boy Scout troop, police said, though it's unclear how long Robertson worked with the troop and if he was still an active leader when the rapes happened.
"You enroll your son into Boy Scouts to teach the better things in life, the qualities of life," Traine said. "You feel like it's secure, that it's beneficial. When something like this happens, it's devastating - not just for the Boy Scouts but to the other children and future children that want to go into the Boy Scouts."
Robertson will be arraigned in Berea Municipal Court Tuesday, Traine said. It's unclear what time he is slated to appear in front of a judge.
Olmsted Falls police have also been in contact with the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office to present the case to a grand jury, Traine said.

TROY, MO (KTVI) – The Lincoln County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged a 37-year-old local man with rape of a girl under the age of 14.
According to prosecutors, the victim’s father contacted the sheriff’s office on February 22 after discovering handwritten notes from the suspect, which seemed to disclose inappropriate sexual contact with his daughter.
The victim told detectives the suspect, identified as John Stover, would provide her with alcohol and marijuana and said the two had sex on several occasions.
Investigators questioned Stover, who said he had not seen the victim for about three years. He admitted to having intercourse with the girl and said he knew she was a minor.
Stover was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree statutory rape. He remains jailed on $100,000 cash-only bond.
Stover is not only barred from having contact with the victim and her family, but he’s also not allowed to have unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 17.

A Binghamton man's alleged abuses against a 12-year-old girl spanned six years, ending about three months before state police arrested him, according to court records.
Chad F. Winans, 37, was arrested Thursday and charged with a felony count of predatory sexual assault against a child. If convicted, he could face a minimum prison term of 10 years and a maximum term of life.
Court papers say Winans exually assaulted the child from December 2009 until December 2016, and those incidents happened over the course of those years at two locations in the Town of Conklin.
Winans engaged in sexual acts with the child, according to court papers. Authorities have not disclosed how he and the child came into contact with each other.
The allegations were first reported to troopers in early February, according to records. Winans was arrested at 3:31 p.m. Thursday.
The Broome County District Attorney's Office assisted state police with the investigation that resulted in Winans' arrest. He is being held in the Broome County jail, while awaiting further court proceedings.
Law enforcement officials say predatory sexual assault against a child is among the highest-level felony charges in the state.
A defendant could be charged with predatory sexual assault if he or she commits a violent sexual offense such as first-degree rape or first-degree aggravated sexual abuse against a victim who is less than 13 years old and while the perpetrator is 18 years old or more, according to police.

A Pahokee man is facing charges that he raped a 13-year-old girl while she was attending a funeral at a church, according to an arrest report.
Andre Brown, 26, is being held without bond at the Palm Beach County Jail and is facing one count of sexual assault on a victim between 12 and 18 years old.
The rape took place April 30, 2016, but the girl did not tell anyone about the assault because she was scared of being blamed for the attack, the report said.
The girl, who was familiar with Brown, told Palm Beach County sheriff’s detectives that Brown grabbed her by the arm, walked her into the women’s restroom at the church — then locked the door.
Brown took the girl into a stall for handicapped users and raped her, the report said.
In July, the girl was taken to a doctor by an unidentified person because “she was not acting right,” the report said. A day later, a doctor revealed the girl was pregnant. The girl then admitted she was raped by Brown.
Brown denied having sex with the girl, but a DNA test showed that he impregnated the victim.

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) - We're learning more about a former youth wrestling coach charged with raping a young athlete. State police say Ron Gorman, formerly of East Stroudsburg, sexually assaulted a then 10-year-old boy for years.
Investigators believe there are more victims out there.
The rapes began when Ron Gorman was a Stroudsburg Area Youth Wrestling volunteer coach from 2009 through 2012. Gorman then took a coaching position in Georgia. Investigators in Georgia are looking into sexual assaults against juvenile wrestlers there as well.
A now 20-year-old man tells state police that while growing up, his former wrestling coach made him part of the family. The then 10-year-old had a rough home life and would spend a lot of time with Ron Gorman and his family.

"You have young people and parents who are trusting someone whose in charge of the young people," says Richard Spezzano of Stroudsburg.

Investigators say overtime, Gorman started sexually assaulting the boy. The first time, it happened at a Stroudsburg hotel after Gorman's kids fell asleep.

"If it's true, it's a horrible situation," Spezzano adds.

Court papers say the sexual assaults happened weekly for more than three years, even occasionally after Gorman took a coaching position in Georgia. Investigators allege it happened during vacations and inside the Gorman's Penn Estates house when his wife wasn't around.

"I think that's very disturbing," says Emmanuel Daniels of Tobyhanna.

State police say Gorman would tell the victim he loves him, even showering the boy with gifts from money to a BMX bike.

"I would hate to be a parent having to deal with that," Spezzano adds.

Once Gorman recently learned he was under investigation in Georgia, he allegedly contacted the victim telling him to keep quiet.  Court papers say during a recorded phone call last month, Gorman told the former youth wrestler, "the trick is to not talk about it."

"I hope that the [victim's] family gets some type of justice because I think that is very bad," Daniels says.
Ron Gorman is behind bars in Georgia and awaiting extradition back to Pennsylvania. Then he will face a judge in Stroud Township.
We spoke with Gorman's wife over the phone. She says her family has no comment.
Gorman faces more than 250 counts of child rape related charges in Monroe County. So far, he has not been charged in Georgia.
