MORGAN HILL — A civil trial is underway to determine whether school administrators could have prevented or more quickly detected sexual abuse of several students by a former teacher who is now serving a 40-year prison sentence.
Families of three of 55-year-old John Arthur Loyd’s four victims sued the Morgan Hill Unified School District after his 2015 conviction for four felony counts of lewd or lascivious acts on a child by force, violence, duress or fear. The plaintiffs — described in the court filing as Jane Doe, Jane Doe 2 and Jane Doe 3 — are girls who were students between the ages of 9 and 11 at Paradise Valley Elementary School between 2012 and 2014.
