Palakkad: Two minor siblings who were found dead in their home at Walayar, near here, in a span of of two months, were sexually abused, the police said on Tuesday.
The police arrested a relative of the girls after their mother said he had molested the elder child a year ago. The arrested is a cousin of the girls' mother.
M.R. Ajithkumar, inspector-general of police, said postmortem and scientific examinations had proven that both the girls were sexually abused.
The body of the 11-year-old girl was found hanging in in her house on January 12 and the younger girl, who was nine, was found dead in a similar manner on March 4.
Earlier, Bhagyam, the mother, told the police that her elder daughter was molested by a relative a year ago. She said she had warned the man after she came to know of the incident.
Bhagyam said her younger daughter had told the police that two people had visited their house the day the he elder girl was found dead.
A Kerala police team probing the death of two minor siblings following alleged sexual assault in Palakkad took four persons into custody Tuesday. The police also got crucial evidence to prove that the girls, who were 9 and 11, were raped by the culprits.
While questioning the suspects, police found visuals of the sexual assault on the girls from one of their mobile phones.
The police suspect that at least six persons were involved in the crime, Manorama News reported.
