A Palm Coast, Florida couple accused of sexually abusing children on their Skype calls with each other appeared in court on Wednesday for a hearing.
Paul Dykes Jr., 20, and Erin Vickers, 22, are facing a combined 78 charges related to the alleged abuse.
Prosecutors say they were a couple in March 2015, when cops raided Dykes' home and found a horrifying cache of child pornography on his laptop and cellphone
According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, forensic analysts found more than 1,000 child porn pictures and videos on Dykes' laptop and pictures and videos on his cellphone showing him performing sexual acts on a two-year-old girl.
A few of the images recovered on his phone showed a woman performing sex acts on a one-year-old girl, who was later identified as Vickers.
Cops then raided her home and found 64 similar images on her cellphone, 40 of which appeared to be duplicates.
In court on Wednesday, Vickers' lawyer argued that her April 2015 interview with police not be admissible during the trial. The interview includes lurid details of how she sexually abused children during her Skype talks with Dykes.
The couple have been held without bail since their arrest two years ago. Their separate trials could start as soon as June.
Both face a count each of capital sexual battery, which carries a mandatory life in prison sentence if convicted.
Dykes also faces 20 counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child, one count of sexual battery to a child under 12 by a perpetrator 18 or older, two counts of transmission of child pornography by electronic device or equipment and 10 counts of possession of child pornography.
Vickers faces 20 counts each of transmission of material harmful to minors and promoting a sexual performance by a child, as well as one count of sexual battery to a victim under 12. Vickers faces two other felony counts related to a previous arrest for which she was still on parole.
In 2013, Vickers was arrested in Polk County when she went with her then-boyfriend to meet a 14-year-old girl who ended up being an undercover deputy.
Her lawyers want that arrest not to be mentioned during the trial.
