Sexual predator raped young boy after grooming him on Facebook
Ben Flynn has now been jailed for 13 years after preying on his victim on social media before attacking him ‘to satisfy his own depraved urges’, detectives said.
Flynn, 24, was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life, following a sentencing hearing at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court.
He admitted two counts of rape and one of attempted rape, as well as a series of other sexual offences.
Flynn, of Kings Walk, Droylsden, sent a friend request to his victim - who is under 13 years old - on Facebook last year, despite never having met him before. After the boy accepted, Flynn began ‘bombarding’ him with messages.
Despite knowing his age, Flynn invited the youngster to his home for a game on his Playstation, before molesting him.
They met on two further occasions, during which Flynn sexually abused the boy.
After being arrested, Flynn admitted sending the messages and that he knew the recipient was a child.
Following the case, Det Con Claire Pickavance, of GMP’s Tameside borough, said: “Ben Flynn is a dangerous predator who preyed on a young boy via social media before arranging to meet with him so that he could satisfy his own depraved urges.
“At no point did he give any consideration to the effect that his actions would have on his young victim when he decided to act on them nor did he show a shred of humanity when he continued to attempt to arrange further opportunities to abuse him.
“Thankfully Flynn has now been taken off the streets and is unable to pose a risk to young people, be that online or physically in person.
“I hope the sentence passed here today will send a clear message to those who think grooming children online and abusing them is acceptable or something that they can get away with.
“That message is simply that it will not be tolerated and we are prepared to investigate and seek prosecution for anyone who engages in the sexual abuse of children.”
Flynn also pleaded guilty to four counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, two counts of causing a child to watch a sexual act and one of breaching a sexual offence prevention order.
