A jury found a Swanzey man guilty Thursday afternoon on four charges of aggravated felonious sexual assault.
A fifth sexual assault charge against Robert K. Chambers Sr., 65, was dropped after the jury did not reach a unanimous verdict.
Chambers was taken into custody after the verdict was read shortly before 4 p.m. in Cheshire County Superior Court in Keene, and he will be held at the Cheshire County jail until his sentencing on July 7, according to Assistant Cheshire County Attorney Keith W. Clouatre.
A jury found a Swanzey man guilty Thursday afternoon on four charges of aggravated felonious sexual assault.
The victim, now an adult, had been 7 years old when the abuse first started, she told the court during her testimony Tuesday.

Chambers, who previously served as police chief in Gilsum and Marlow, was once a suspect in the 1978 death of his friend Russell Bean. He was charged with second-degree murder in 1988, but a grand jury later declined to hand up an indictment.
Police found Bean’s remains in Robert Chambers’ front yard in Marlow. Bean’s killing remains unsolved.

“I would like to pay tribute to the bravery of the victims in coming forward and speaking to police, as a result of their courage an extremely dangerous man has been convicted. “This investigation has taken us nationally and internationally and I would like to thank the professionals who have worked with us and assisted in supporting the victims, in order to achieve this result.
