Franklin Township: Somerset Man Charged with Sexual Assault of 4-year Old TAPINTO FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP STAFF May 26, 2017

A Hilo grand jury returned a 41-count indictment May 10 charging David K. Willett with continuous sexual assault of a minor under the age of 14, 19 counts of sexual assault in the first degree and 21 counts of sexual assault in the third degree.
A bench warrant was issued for Willett’s arrest. Bail was set at $400,000 and terms of release, should Willett post bail, include that he have no contact with any minor younger than 18 or any witnesses in this case.
According to the indictment, the alleged offenses occurred between Aug. 1 and Dec. 5, 2008. The document states Willett had recurring access to the girl, who is still a minor, and that he “did intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly engage in three or more acts of sexual penetration or sexual contact with” the victim.
Continuous sexual assault and first-degree sexual assault are Class A felonies punishable by up to 20 years imprisonment upon conviction, while third-degree sexual assault is a Class C felony punishable by up to a five-year prison term. The indictment, however, alleges that since Willett could be sentenced for two or more felonies, he is subject to an extended term of imprisonment — in this case, life with the possibility of parole — “for the protection of the public.”
According to court records, Willett was sentenced May 16, 2011, to five years probation for felony domestic abuse and violating a protective order. He also was sentenced to a year in jail with all but time served suspended provided he comply with conditions of probation. He was resentenced Nov. 24, 2015, to a year in jail with six months suspended with his probation restarted for violating his parole by failing to appear in court, failure to complete a substance abuse assessment and testing positive for opiates.
Willett also was sentenced to six months in jail Dec. 9, 2015, after being convicted on two counts of violating a temporary restraining order.

KSP arrests Livingston man on several rape charges involving child under 12 May 28, 2017

SOMERVILLE -- A township man was found guilty of first-degree aggravated sexual assault in Somerset County Superior Court on Friday for a 2014 incident involving a 12-year-old girl during a sleepover at her Manville home.

Arthur Wildgoose Jr., 33, is facing a state prison term of 25 years to life - with a minimum of 25 years before being eligible for parole - when he's sentenced on Sept. 21.
The week-long trial before Judge Angela Borkowski ended Thursday morning and the jury began deliberating that afternoon. Jurors returned with a verdict Friday afternoon. Defense attorney James Wronko said he plans to appeal the verdict.

"I was disappointed with the verdict, especially as Mr. Wildgoose, who had no prior record at all, is now facing life in prison with 25 years without parole," said Wronko. "That sentence is almost akin to knowing and purposeful murder."
Assistant Prosecutor Merrill Mezzacappa represented the state in the case.
On Nov. 22, 2014, Manville police were alerted to an improper relationship between Wildgoose and the girl after her mother discovered romantic text messages between the pair, the prosecution said.
On Dec. 29, the victim, who initially denied an improper relationship, told detectives from the Somerset County's Sex Crime and Child Abuse Unit that the text messages had escalated to a sexual assault during a sleepover at her home, the prosecution said.
It was revealed in court that he pair exchanged more than 1,600 text messages in October and November.
Immediately after the sexual assault, Wildgoose apologized to the girl. The next day, he gave her a Plan B emergency contraceptive, the prosecution said.

A Jacksonville man was arrested for child abuse after he hogtied a little girl while picking her up from school.
A witness said the abuse happened Friday afternoon outside Loretto Elementary School in Mandarin.
Action News Jax spoke with a father who was picking up his children when, he said, he saw the abuse take place.
He said, at first, he thought it was just someone playing around. But as he got closer, he realized it was much more serious.
"(The) closer I got, I realized she was screaming for help,” the father said.
The man, who didn’t want to reveal his identity, said, “The first thing I heard was ’I'll break your (expletive) jaw if you don’t shut the (expletive) right now.' He was like, 'You better shut the (expletive) up or you’re going to pay for this.'”
The father said the man was grabbing and screaming at a young girl around the age of 6.
“I tried to intervene about the time the principal showed up,” he said.
The principal had called police but before officers arrived, the man and the girl left.
The father said, "He went and got a rope and came back with it. It was a skinny little dog leash, like a 10-foot dog leash, and (he) started wrapping it around her legs like he was going to hogtie her."
Police later interviewed and arrested 38-year-old Alexander Crabtree.
According to the police report, Crabtree was at the school because the young girl had been suspended for holding scissors to the throat of another student.
The report goes on to say the girl refused to leave the school. She was reported screaming and grabbing onto nearby poles.
Still, the father who witnessed the incident said there was a better way to handle the situation. "To go to the extreme of tying someone up, putting your hand around their throat. Telling em you’re going to (expletive) break their jaw."
Crabtree was arrested and charged with child abuse and resisting an officer without violence. He is also a registered sex offender.

WARSAW — A Warsaw man faces 13 years in state prison after he admitted in Wyoming County Court Friday that he repeatedly sexually assaulted a child.
Michael P. Lantain, 35, pleaded guilty to first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child and use of a child in a sexual performance as a sexually motivated felony.
Assistant District Attorney Vincent Hemming said the plea calls for a sentence of 13 years in prison and 12 years of post-release supervision.
Lantain was arrested in January after a village of Warsaw investigation revealed he had sexually assaulted a child less than 11 years old. Police at the time seized a computer and cellphones from Lantain’s residence and images of the victim were found.
Further investigation resulted in an indictment in March charging Lantain with predatory sexual assault, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison, 11 counts each of use of a child in a sexual performance and possessing images of a child, along with three counts of first-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. Those charges will be dismissed as part of the plea deal.
Judge Michael Mohun revoked Lantain’s bail and he will be jailed until sentencing, which was set for June 29.
Also in County Court Friday, Rebecca Reding, 38, entered a not guilty plea to an indictment charging her with third-degree welfare fraud and grand larceny and four counts of offering a false instrument for filing. She is accused of bilking Social Services by not reporting rental income.
